NEKOMO, a CFA registered Cattery of Excellence, began
in 1985. Breeding stock was carefully selected from no less than seven
fine catteries in the United States. Later imports from Japan, the country
of origin, were added to further assure the healthy vigor of our kittens.
NEKOMO’s first season showing Bobtails in CFA resulted in a National
Win in Premiership. See our Gallery of National Winners.

Since then the partners, Allen Scruggs and Douglas Myers,
have achieved 15 more National Wins -- for a total of 16, many more Regional
Wins, mostly in The Southern Region, along with 14 Distinguished Merit
awards. OOPS, one of those National Wins was a Persian! But we’ll
put him in the gallery anyway! It goes without saying that NEKOMO has
Granded many cats in Championship and in Premiership – But who’s
counting? We are, because we just achieved our 100th grand in the 2007
season.
Allen has written about the breed for The CFA Almanac twice, Cat Fancy
Magazine, The Cat Fanciers’ Newsletter (now The Cat Fanciers’
Journal) and, most recently, the CFA Book of the Cat. Allen was CFA Japanese
Bobtail Breed Council Secretary for 10 years. Douglas is a popular CFA
Approved Allbreed Judge with assignments throughout the United States
as well as abroad. He has judged in Japan, Russia, Hong Kong, and Australia,
where he and Allen gave a seminar on the Japanese Bobtail.
Allen or Douglas will happily discuss adding you to their kitten waiting
list. Also, we do occasionally sell young, healthy show cats that are
retired from the show ring and from breeding. Our concern for NEKOMO pet
cats and kittens is reflected in our contract, which requires that we
alter them prior to delivery. We do ship kittens, though never before
they are about 14 weeks old.
One or both of us can frequently be found somewhere judging (in the case
of Douglas) and/or exhibiting on most weekends. We belong to Japanese
Bobtail Fanciers, which produces an annual show in different parts of
the US.
Numerous National Breed Wins in the CFA Cat Fancy attest to NEKOMO Cattery's
pre-eminence in the breed. GRC,RW Pachinko's Kyoko of Nekomo (co-owned
with breeders Bill & Rose Oberbeck) won Best of Breed in 1998 while
GRC Nekomo Nobu won Second Best of Breed in 1999. GRC,NW Nekomo Haruo
Nakajima won Second Best of Breed in 2001 - along with Seventh Best Cat
in the nation. In 2003, GRC,BW, NW Nekomo Empress Himiko, a Mi-Ke (tri-color)
won Best of Breed shorthair as well as Fourth Best Cat nationally. Their
most recent win was in the 2004-2005 season when GC,BW,NW Nekomo Hiroshi
Sugimoto won Best of Breed and was Ninth Best Cat nationally. His brother,
GC RW Nekomo Koji Tatsuno of Yuki-Usagi was Third Best of Breed nationally
that same year.
All of these cats and one Basenji, a rescue cat , Racer,
named for NASCAR Driver Bobby Labonte (we designed his interiors of his
house), and two “ redneck” chows” complete the Nekomo
crowd.
